Under the current trading specifications of Lucky Gold, a margin ratio at or below 30% will trigger forced liquidation under normal circumstances. Positions held over the weekend are subject to a stricter risk threshold, currently set at a margin ratio of 200% or lower.

This means a position sustainable on weekdays may require a larger capital buffer heading into the weekend. If you plan to carry London Gold or London Silver positions through the weekend, do not only check whether your trades are in profit. You must also monitor your account margin ratio.

How the margin ratio is calculated

You may use this simple formula: Margin Ratio = (Account Equity ÷ Used Margin) × 100%

Example: Account equity: USD 3,000 Margin occupied by open positions: USD 1,000

Margin Ratio: 3000 ÷ 1000 × 100% = 300%

If floating losses pull equity down to USD 2,000: 2000 ÷ 1000 × 100% = 200%

Per Lucky Gold’s weekend rules, this level hits the forced liquidation threshold for weekend holdings.

Why the threshold changes from 30% on weekdays to 200% for weekends

When regular trading closes for the weekend, investors cannot adjust positions in real time as they can on weekdays. However, global events do not pause along with the market. Geopolitical conflicts, policy announcements, political developments or unexpected economic news may emerge over the weekend. When trading resumes the following week, prices may gap significantly away from the previous Friday’s closing level.

Such opening gaps amplify account risk. The higher weekend margin requirement ensures accounts holding weekend positions have extra capital buffer.

Understanding the 200% threshold

200% does not mean forced liquidation only after you suffer a 200% loss. It refers to the ratio between your account equity and used margin.

Using the same example with USD 1,000 used margin: If equity = USD 2,500 → 2500 ÷ 1000 = 250% If equity = USD 2,000 → 2000 ÷ 1000 = 200%

If equity falls further, the margin ratio will drop below 200%. When assessing the safety of weekend positions, always check the live margin ratio directly on your trading account instead of only looking at account balance.

Why your balance may look ample while the ratio is close to 200%

Account balance does not reflect the full floating profit and loss of open orders in real time. Equity is the figure used to calculate the margin ratio.

For instance, your balance may show USD 5,000, which appears substantial. If your open positions have already incurred large floating losses, equity may fall to USD 3,000, while your positions tie up a large amount of margin. In this scenario, the margin ratio can drop rapidly.

Heading into the weekend, equity and used margin are far more important indicators than account balance.

How to raise your margin ratio

Based on the formula, there are two ways: An increase in equity lifts the ratio. A reduction in used margin also lifts the ratio.

In practical account management, you may adjust position size according to your trading plan and reserve sufficient funds. There is no universal “safe lot size” suitable for every account.

A USD 1,000 account and a USD 10,000 account holding one lot of gold have completely different risk-bearing capacities.

Should you only check this on Friday?

It is better to check well in advance. If sharp volatility emerges near Friday’s closing, you will have very little time left to adjust positions.

Per Lucky Gold’s current schedule, the trading week in daylight saving time ends at 04:55 on Saturday; under standard time, it closes at 05:55 on Saturday, excluding statutory holidays and international market closures.

If you intend to hold positions across the weekend, perform an early check on Friday: What is your current equity? How much margin is occupied? What is the margin ratio? Where would the ratio fall if gold moves further against your position?

Calculating ahead of time is far less stressful than scrambling right before market close.

The biggest misconception about weekend holdings

A common misunderstanding: “The market is closed on weekends, so nothing will happen to my positions.”

Your trading terminal may not stream continuous quotes during the break, but external events continue to unfold. Their price impact will show up once the market reopens.

Holding trades across the weekend means accepting an extended period where you cannot adjust positions in real time. Whether you carry trades over the weekend is a personal trading decision, but this risk should be factored in before Friday’s close.

Risk Warning: Lucky Gold’s margin rules, liquidation thresholds and trading hours are subject to adjustment according to market conditions. Before holding positions across the weekend, review the latest trading specifications and official announcements, and manage your positions based on your account equity, position size and personal risk tolerance.
