I. The Histogram Reflects Not Price Itself

In gold technical analysis, MACD is commonly used to observe trend rhythm, while the histogram is more like a magnifying glass for momentum changes. It does not directly tell people where prices will move, but rather shows the changing distance between the fast line and slow line.

When the histogram grows from short to long, it indicates the gap between the two lines is expanding and market momentum is strengthening; when it shrinks from long to short, it indicates this gap is narrowing and momentum may be weakening.

II. Expanding Red Bars Represent Upside Momentum Expansion

When the MACD histogram is positioned above the zero line and red bars progressively lengthen, it usually indicates that gold prices' upside momentum is expanding. At this time, buying sentiment in the market is relatively positive and prices may be in a strong uptrend rhythm.

However, lengthening red bars do not equate to prices continuing in a one-directional advance; they more indicate that current momentum is still releasing. When observing, one should also combine whether prices break through key levels and whether candlesticks show patterns of continuous advance.

III. Shortening Red Bars Signal Weakening Upside Momentum

If gold prices continue rising but MACD red bars begin to shorten with each successive bar, it indicates upside momentum is no longer as strong as before. This situation does not necessarily mean the trend will immediately reverse, but rather signals that the market's advance speed may slow down.

In many cases, prices will continue to oscillate at higher levels while the histogram already shows momentum deterioration ahead of time. If prices continue making new highs while red bars fail to expand proportionally, a momentum divergence may form, warranting further observation.

IV. Expanding Green Bars Represent Downside Momentum Expansion

When the MACD histogram is positioned below the zero line and green bars progressively lengthen, it usually indicates that gold prices' downside momentum is strengthening. At this time, selling pressure is relatively apparent and prices may be in a weak phase.

The longer the green bars, the greater the negative distance between the fast and slow lines, and the clearer the downtrend rhythm. However, this change should not be used in isolation, as after a sharp short-term decline, the histogram may still be lengthy while prices enter a recovery phase.

V. Shortening Green Bars Signal Weakening Downside Momentum

When green bars begin to shorten, it indicates downside momentum is converging. Gold prices may still be trading at lower levels, but the force for further decline has weakened.

At this point, analytical focus should not be solely on whether prices immediately bounce, but rather on observing whether bearish force continues to diminish and whether prices stabilize repeatedly in a certain zone. If prices make new lows while green bars fail to expand proportionally, downside momentum divergence may also occur.

VI. Rhythm Switches Happen More Easily Near the Zero Line

When the MACD histogram approaches the zero line, it indicates the distance between the fast and slow lines is small and market momentum is not pronounced. Gold prices in this zone often experience choppy movement with weak directional bias.

Histogram color changing from green to red represents momentum shifting from weak to strong; from red to green represents momentum shifting from strong to weak. However, signals near the zero line are prone to frequent changes, making them better suited for combined analysis with trendlines, moving averages, and important price zones.

VII. The Core Value of Histograms Is Observing Changes

When using MACD histograms, the focus should not be only on color but on length, position, and consecutive changes. Color indicates direction, length indicates momentum strength, and consecutive changes indicate whether rhythm persists.

For gold, a commodity significantly impacted by macro information, histograms can help analysts more clearly observe the strong-to-weak transitions in market sentiment. However, they should not be used independently apart from price structure. Truly valuable judgments often come from mutual verification between indicator changes and price action.
