I. French Bond Volatility and US Fiscal Anxieties Lift Bullion in Prior Session

Spot Gold 1-Hour Chart: Prices engage in wide-ranging consolidation above the $4,150 support zone

Spot gold advanced 0.57% during the previous trading session, closing at $4,163.78 per ounce.

During Wednesday's early Asian trade, gold pared a portion of its gains to trade at $4,151.86 per ounce, down $12.62 or 0.30% intraday.

The session opened at $4,166.67, printing an intraday high of $4,169.93 against a low of $4,151.67.

Turmoil in French sovereign bonds and escalating worries over US fiscal health reignited safe-haven demand.

Concurrently, US 10-year Treasury yields easing from peaks and the dollar slipping from 1-year highs provided critical underlying support.

II. Retreating Treasury Yields Offer Breathing Room for Bullion

The benchmark US 10-year yield touched multi-decade highs on Monday before edging lower, falling 4.2 basis points to 5.269% on Tuesday.

The 30-year yield eased 2.2 basis points to 5.642%, while the 2-year yield fell 4.4 basis points to 4.789%.

With the Dollar Index softening from annual peaks, gold found short-term relief against dual macro headwinds.

Will Compernolle, Macro Strategist at FHN Financial, noted that traders are catching their breath ahead of the next major catalysts.

He emphasized that with yields elevated, markets require more convincing reasons before pushing bond prices lower and yields higher.

For bullion, stalling yield advances relieve immediate chart pressure, though upcoming inflation prints could still reshape interest rate expectations.

III. Three-Year Note Auction Meets Decent Demand Amid Lingering Caution

Illustration of US dollar banknotes and debt auction market activity

The US Treasury's three-year note auction on Tuesday drew respectable interest, stopping through at 4.932% below the prevailing secondary market yield.

Direct bidders were allotted 31.7%, marking their largest share of an auction since February.

However, the bid-to-cover ratio arrived at 2.62x, trailing the six-auction average of 2.65x.

While immediate allocation demand held firm, the results underscored persistent investor skepticism toward the medium-to-long-term fiscal horizon.

Olivier d'Assier, Senior Director of Investment Decision Research at SimCorp, remarked that turning bullish on Treasuries remains premature.

He argued that credible resolutions to fiscal deficits remain absent, ensuring debt sustainability worries continue to echo through gold's safe-haven bids.

IV. Diverging Rate Expectations Place FOMC Minutes in Center Stage

CME FedWatch bar chart showing October rate hike probability declining to 19.9%

CME FedWatch indicates market pricing for an October rate hike has fallen to 19.9%, while December odds remain elevated at 84%.

Following softer-than-expected September payrolls, traders notably unwound bets on another immediate rate hike this month.

The Federal Reserve's September FOMC minutes are slated for release on Thursday Beijing time.

A dovish tilt could cement market expectations for a policy pause, whereas hawkish language may re-ignite tightening bets across year-end meetings.

Ahead of the minutes, participants will also closely monitor the upcoming PPI and CPI reports for directional conviction.

五、Institutions Maintain Long-Term Bullish Stance While Monitoring $4,200 Barrier

TD Securities analysts observed that persistent ETF inflows and discretionary buying provide structural support, reiterating their forecast for gold to surpass $5,000/oz by 2027.

Simultaneously, G7 emergency strategic reserve releases mitigated select energy supply anxieties, though commodity volatility continues to cloud inflation paths.

Over the near term, FOMC minutes and subsequent price data will directly determine monetary policy expectations.

Whether gold can establish a solid base and launch another challenge toward the $4,200 milestone will face rigorous testing.
